Fasting During Ramadan

Ramadan is the Holy Month for Muslims all over the world. It commemorates the first revelation of the Quran to Prophet Muhammad. This year Ramadan is set to begin on May 6 and last a month. Muslims fast from dawn until sunset, and it is important to fast properly so your body can endure the fast throughout the whole month. Here are some tips to help you guys out!

  1. Keep Hydrated– So important to drink your water once you break fast. You want to replenish your body for what you lacked the whole day!
  2. Avoid Junk Food– Just because you didn’t eat all day doesn’t mean you should break your fast with junk food. Try to eat healthy and balanced meals, it will make you feel less tired.
  3. Exercise– It is important to stay active during your fast. I’m not saying to run a 5K lol but do some light walking or yoga. Keep your body moving, it will be beneficial for you throughout the month.
  4. Watch the Salt– Try to stay away from the salty food. You will regret it the next day trust me, the thirst will be extremely difficult to overcome.
  5. Healthy Habits-Fasting can also give you the opportunity to maintain healthier habits. The perfect opportunity to quit smoking or cut back on the caffeine you consume everyday.

The Holy Month of Ramadan is not only a time to fast but it is also a time to reflect. It is also about self-growth and self-control. I look at it as a cleanse for your body, heart, and soul!

Does anyone ever have this mom life figured out??? Personally, it’s so hard to find a balance between mom duties and everything else I have to do in my life. Don’t get me wrong its the most rewarding job, but it never stops!!!! Feedings, bath time, laundry, more laundry, tummy time, daily exercies…when is there any time for MOM! One of the hardest things I have found about being a new mom, is finding time for myself. I think it is so important for us mom’s to take care of ourselves as well.

I wanted to share one of the most important things I have learned so far….PREPARATION IS KEY! Being prepared makes things so much easier and leaves a little time for us mom’s. I like to have my daughters bag always packed, once I get home from a long day out with her I make sure to re-pack her bag. So the next outing doesn’t require any preparation, just get the baby ready and out the door! I also have found that meal prepping for myself and my husband during the week helps me stay on track. Working out 9 o’clock at night is hard enough, I don’t need to worry about cooking dinner as well!

All The Pasta…With Fewer Carbs!

You heard me right…fewer carbs! I was introduced to Banza Pasta by a friend I met when I was going to OTF (Orange Theory Fitness). I have been using it as a replacement for your typical pasta ever since. Just a little info about Banza Pasta, it is made with chickpeas and it has double the protein than your typical pasta. With four times the fiber and nearly half the net carbs…I mean you can’t go wrong! Check it out and get all the nutrition facts on the link provided.

Summer is around the corner and one of my most favorite things to make is my Cold Banza Salad. It is my to go to salad when I want something high in protein and I won’t feel guilty about eating. Oh yea….it’s so easy to make! Find my recipe below…hope you guys enjoy!

Ingredients:

  • Banza Pasta
  • Arugula
  • Olives
  • Carrots
  • Tomatoes
  • Olive Oil
  • Salt & Pepper

Reciepe:

  1. Cook your Banza Pasta in boiling water, it cooks very quickly so be sure to keep an eye on it (you don’t want it to turn to Banza Mash Potato)!
  2. Pre- cut your olives, carrots, and tomatoes.
  3. I also like to chop up my arugula, but it’s up to you if you prefer to or not.
  4. Once pasta is done cooking, drain and let cool.
  5. Combine your augula, olives, carrots, and tomatoes in a large bowl.
  6. Add cooled Banza Pasta and give it a good mix.
  7. Add olive oil and salt & pepper to taste.
  8. ENJOY! (told you it was easy).

 

Transformation Tuesday Inspo

This is my Transformation Tuesday story…umm in reverse? My weight has always been a very sensitive topic for me, but I decided to share it in the hopes of helping someone else that may feel the same. I always struggled with weight my whole life. I’m Italian, so carbs have always been a huge part of my life and a huge contribution to my hips! I tried so many diets as a young teen into adulthood. Yo-yo diets, Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers, diet pills, the Military Diet (basically starvation). Of course they all helped me lose weight, but nothing was ever consistent. I always gained the weight back and even sometimes more! Even workouts I think I tried them all; gym workouts, home workouts, OTF, kickboxing, yoga (the list could go on forever). As I got older, I realized I was trying to lose weight for all the WRONG reasons. I was trying to always please people, I was trying to “fit” into this social media world where a size zero is considered “beautiful”. Let’s face it that will never be me, these hips don’t lie! Even when I lost 80 pounds and was at my smallest (guess which picture that is), I still was not happy with myself. Second picture above, I gained all my weight back plus a little more and I was 8 months pregnant. I can’t even begin to tell you how I felt! Huge, unattractive, like an elephant (just to name a few). But let me tell you, and all the women out there that may be feeling the same way, this weight gain and these stretch marks created life! My daughter has been my biggest and most rewarding accomplishment in my life, and I would go through it all again if I had to! I just want you all to know, whatever your weight loss challenge may be YOU CAN DO IT! Let’s hold each other accountable and get the work done! I am currently on DAY 2 of my weight loss journey and I am so excited to update you guys with my progress 🙂

Little Bit About Me…

Let me start by saying, by NO means am I a professional blogger or writer! Please don’t judge me for any misspellings or in proper grammar 🙂 I’m actually far from it, I’m a Molecular Technologist by profession but I am currently on maternity leave. My husband and I welcomed our first child into this world in March and it has been the biggest blessing for the both of us. I thought I had everything planned out in my life; amazing family, good career, supportive husband, our own house, beautiful child…..and the list can go on! God has really blessed me with so much, but I recently started to realize I really don’t have everything so figured out as I thought. I am almost 2 months postpartum with a new responsibility and a whole new life. All these questions started racing through my mind. How will I even start to lose the 60 pounds I gained through my pregnancy??? How will I go back to work with the sleepless nights and limited energy? Will I be able to be a good mom and continue to be a good wife, will I have time to cook and maintain the house? I asked myself so many questions through out this whole period from the minute I found out I was pregnant. So that’s when I decided to start this blog, I figured we could all help each other out. I’m sure I’m not alone out there, so many people both men and women, no matter what their age never have it figured out….right? So I want this blog to be a space where I can share things with you all; about everyday life, health, beauty, fitness (just to name a few). I want it also to be interactive, I would love to hear from all you as well. I truly believe information is knowledge, and we can all benefit from one another. So please join me on my new journey trying to balance everything in life and figuring things out day by day 🙂
